About the event
June 17, 2024 Webinar #1 — U.S. Refugee Policy and Resettlement: This is the first in a series of webinars, cosponsored by the Mauthe Center, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Green Bay, and Wisconsin Literacy, to help the community better understand the policies and processes supporting refugee resettlement in the United States and in Brown County, Wisconsin. The series is moderated by Dr. Robert Pyne, Program Director at the Mauthe Center.
We will be joined by Dr. Alise Coen, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Dr. Coen's research explores intersections of human rights, migration, refugees, and U.S. foreign policy at local and global levels. She is the author of "Reconfiguring Refugees: The US Retreat from Responsibility Sharing," published in 2024 by New York University Press (https://nyupress.org/9781479827978/reconfiguring-refugees/). Also participating in this conversation will be Laurie Martinez, Immigration Services Manager with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Green Bay.
June 27, 2024 Webinar #2 — Snapshots from the Refugee Journey: This is the second in a series of webinars, cosponsored by the Mauthe Center, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Green Bay, and Wisconsin Literacy, to help the community better understand the policies and processes supporting refugee resettlement in the United States and in Brown County, Wisconsin. The series is moderated by Dr. Robert Pyne, Program Director at the Mauthe Center.
We will be joined by Jill Drzewiecki, gender-responsive education specialist for the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in Rome, Italy. JRS is a humanitarian organization that is active in 57 countries around the world. It serves over one million forcibly displaced people and members of host communities, primarily in the areas of education, livelihoods, reconciliation and psychosocial support. Drzewiecki will describe common elements of the refugee experience, and we will also have an opportunity to hear some stories from individuals who have been resettled in Wisconsin.
July 9, 2024 Webinar #3 — Refugee Resettlement in Brown County: This webinar is the third in a series cosponsored by the Mauthe Center, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Green Bay, and Wisconsin Literacy, to help the community better understand the policies and processes supporting refugee resettlement in the United States and in Brown County, Wisconsin. The series is moderated by Dr. Robert Pyne, Program Director at the Mauthe Center. We will be joined by representatives from Catholic Charities and Wisconsin Literacy, along with other regional experts and resettled refugees, to discuss the processes, challenges, and rewards of refugee resettlement in Brown County.
